Took both bikes for a spin. Found a old trail by a river on the XT.
Then I got on the Suzuki. It always feels so fast after riding the XT. I really want to upgrade to a bigger enduro.

You don’t need a bigger enduro for smaller terrain.
Enjoy this streak of good weather.

I am conflicted in my next motorcycle purchase. I want an enduro/dual sport but my mind goes from getting a Honda CRF250L
Rally, a Husky FE
501 or go fully stupid and get a KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. The Husky will probably be the best all around bike but the price is high and then I look at the KTM since with current discounts, the KTM can be had pretty cheap. Then I think I shouldn’t spend that much money on a second motorcycle and look at the Honda. Best decision is to do nothing right now. We’ll see what the spring brings.

Mostly I want to be more comfortable on the highway. Something capable of 80. So it isn’t stressed going 60 with a head wind.

I’m also conflicted because I want a bigger enduro, but I also want to try the sport bike on for size. I’m looking mostly at second gen Katana 600s it seems like a good size and isnt a full on race bike at all which I’m fine with.
As for what I’d replace the XT200 with I have no idea. The f650gs Dakar is what catches my eye the most but they are fairly rare. I just need to try riding a few bikes. I want more power but I don’t want the heft of something like an old KLR650. I love how nimble my little 200 feel. I think a more modern fuel injected 250/300 bike would probably have the power I’m looking for without losing the flick-ability.

I’d consider an engine limiting speed on paved surfaces a plus for anything with knobby tires. In other words don’t underrate the amount of experience you’re accruing.

I’m also concerned about weight and that’s why the Husky is probably the best choice and why I don’t think I can buy a KLR650. The Husky is actually lighter than the Honda 250 by over 50 pounds. I have a sport bike (13' ZX14R) and wouldn’t mind a more upright bike like the KTM Super Adventure models . My brother is looking to get a KTM 390 Super Adventure R next spring so I’ll see how that is.
I had a BMW R1100RT that I loved but didn’t like the BMW maintenance experience. Best of luck.

I need to get rid of one of my bikes before I can can get any more, but have been window shopping dual sports. The KLR 250 seems neat, and I bet it would make an awesome supermoto. I’ve told myself that I’m done with Italian bikes.... But I could see myself on a Beta for double the cost of the KLR.

50F here and we’re on storm warning with heavy rain. I might get out for a couple days start of this
weekend but looking like I’ll be done for the year after that as the high
will only be 45F
and they’ll start with the anti-ice crap in the mornings
.

Screw you and your “nice" weather. (glad you got some fun bike time)

Its funny to me because “temps in the 60s” means dead of winter cold around here. But I am assuming that means “its warm” in this case haha. I love 40-60 degree temps though, definitely the best possible weather then. Nice to have a bit of a chill without it being too chill.

I’ll give you this for reference, my XL600R will go 80, but 65-70 is about as fast as I like running it for extended periods of time and even then it gets old in a hurry. Can be done yes, but if you’re doing a fair amount of highway riding I’d look into a street bike and keep the small/midsize enduro for the fun trails.

I think the highest temp last week was 40 so yeah above 69 is amazing

The thing is there’s a bunch of cool trails that I need to ride on the highway to get to, or transport the bike on a trailer. Thats why I want something I can ride 30-40 miles on the highway without baking up traffic.

Gotcha gotcha, makes sense. My 600 is good for the highway speeds and honestly isn’t as unwieldy in the technical stuff as I was led to believe. Then again I have zero experience with smaller bikes to know how much better they would be.
